The Summer Without Festivals

A summer without festivals

Summer time is festival time – but due to the corona crisis, the first summer is different from this decade than usual. Since the 15. April is certain: until 31. August 2020 all major events are canceled. The following is an overview of the definition of major events, the possibility of a ticket reimbursement and the importance for all involved.

Failure of major events

Definition big event

In order to provide artists, service providers and cardholders, the managing President of the Federal Association of Concert and Agency (BDKV) requires a uniform regulation for all federal states. If at least 100.000 visitors are expected – so it sets the Ministry of Home and Municipal in NRW – they speak of a major event. It is foreseeable that more than 5.000 visitors will be on the site at the same time, the event must also be canceled. Big festivals like the annual music festivals ‘Rock am Ring’, ‘Wacken Open Air’ or ‘Hurricane Festival’ are included. Also in the US, for example, the ‘coachella’ is. Exhibition grounds, stadiums and event halls are empty in summer 2020. The US health expert Zeke Emanuel believes that for security reasons before fall 2021 no major events no longer aligned.

Failure or catch-up appointment?

Tom Kummerfeldt, Managing Director of the Bielefeld Event Company ‘Newtone’, gives in the interview for the magazine ‘Erwin’ of the newspaper ‘New Westfälische’ newspaper from 16.04.2020 The current stand Price: Replacement dates are only available if events do not take place regularly. If artists come regularly into the location, the appointment is simply out of this year. So it is regulated for example in the ‘two loop’ in Bielefeld. Originally, appointment collisions should be prevented with the European Championship Championship to avoid competition. For individual shows and tour appointments of bands can be arranged after-stoppoints, but the cumbersome planning calls for difficulties. But not only big events are a problem with scheduling. The artist’s schedule must also be adapted.

The right of the ticket purchaser on reimbursement

The reimbursement of the ticket is usually necessary for the viewer because it may not have time at the replacement date. Large ticket agencies like something Evetim ‘try to tackle and pay the audience with vouchers. How cultural organizers hope that not all cards are returned and that the ticket buyers support the artists if they do not value the lost money. Nevertheless, there is the right to reimbursement of the ticket price for three years if the organizer cancel the concert or festival itself. Because the organizer of his obligation does not comply, the buyer can demand his money back – including ticket fees and shipping costs. The catch-up date of the concert must not be perceived by the buyer.

Collection program for the music industry

Attentions are another problem. Halls, insurance for events must be paid in advance. The order of the instruments, technology, hotel reservations and the organization of the catering are other aspects that belong to the planning. Although the planning of many events is always a certain risk of force majeure such as storm, but the monthly failure of events endangered both artists and organizers as well as service providers. The latter earn the least. For example, the association independent music entrepreneur (VUT) demands a collection program for the entire musical industry so that cultural diversity is saved in Germany.
